About Us
Prospect Local History Group is a group of people who volunteer to preserve and protect the history of the City of Prospect and environs area since 2005.
It manages its activities with interested people meeting as a group with a Convenor and operates under the legal auspice of the Friends of Prospect Library Inc: https://www.friendsofprospectlibrary-adelaide.com.au/
PLHG is a Member of History Council of SA and SA History Trust (Museums and Collections).

PLHG is a Member of History Council of SA and SA History Trust (Museums and Collections).
Objectives:
- Promote community interest in the history of the Prospect area
- Encourage research into local history
- Conduct a range of activities to encourage the study, collection, recording and preservation of history in the Prospect area
- Advocate for the preservation of history in the Prospect area
- Conduct an annual program of activities
- Publish books, videos and online resources about the history of the Prospect area.
Prospect Local History Group has an active involvement liaising with the City of Prospect in history matters, including:
- Heritage planning of the City e.g successfully nominated the Prospect Air Raid Shelter for state heritage listing
- Liaising with and supporting Prospect Library in respect of history activities e.g. by researching and adding information to the Prospect Local History Collection (opened in 1986 as part of the SA 150 Jubilee celebrations. It is located within the library, on level one. There are also files located in a dedicated archive area).
- Assisting with research for Prospect Council 150 year history book and celebrations.
Volunteering opportunities include:
- Photographing buildings, precincts, events, people in the local area
- Researching people, places or events.
- Documenting aspects of the area’s history
- Digitisation of images and ephemera
- Preparing/assisting with exhibitions and displays
- Organising/assisting with walks and talks, fundraisers e.g. book sales
